04.01 Brand Positioning: Brand House Pyramid Construction and CES_IFA Trade Show Marketing

Governance metadata | Owner: Head of Marketing | Last reviewed: 2026-10-22 | Next review: 2027-01-31

Core principle: channels decide where you sell; the brand decides how much you can charge for it. Brand equity is the only long-term asset that can keep pushing MSRP upward in the P&L — the first half of this document gives the four-layer Brand House build method, the second half gives the complete CES/IFA operational SOP from T-6 months out to the on-site booth, and the last half runs a deep projection of the overseas top-tier tech media PR and Embargo exclusive-first-publication operational SOP. Trade shows and tech PR are not about buying exposure with money; they are the ultimate lever that feeds ammunition into the 01.08 GR2 Tooling Lock Gate locked-quantity model and the crowdfunding funnel.

1. Brand House Four-Layer Architecture: From Functional Facts to Brand Claim

            ┌──────────────────────────────────────────┐
            │ Brand Ultimate Claim (Essence/Slogan)    │
            ├──────────────────────────────────────────┤
            │ Emotional Value (Emotional Value) │
            ├──────────────────────────────────────────┤
            │ Functional Value (Functional Value) │
            ├──────────────────────────────────────────┤
            │ Reasons to Believe (Reasons to Believe) │
            └──────────────────────────────────────────┘

AstroNext Brand House example:

TierContentSource constraint
Brand ultimate claim (Slogan)**"The Universe, Within Reach." (the universe, within reach)One sentence, translatable, free of technical jargon
Core audience persona (Persona)Tech geeks aged 25~45, outdoor camping enthusiasts, and families introducing astronomy to childrenDerived from the three user-profile dimensions in 01.07 GR1 Commercial Project Definition Gate
Emotional value"Put the universe in the trunk" — a family stargazing night where the child points out Saturn for the first time; social currency from a stunning WeChat Moments / Instagram postSame as above
Functional valueOne-touch AI automatic star finding, auto focus, 2.5kg whole unit, 48Wh long battery lifeAll taken from the existing Battlecard (02.05 Competitor Battlecard One-Pager Template); new claims without evidence are forbidden
Reasons to Believe (RTB)In-house star-map comparison AI model, multiple optical and algorithm patents, CES Innovation Award certification (example / projection, not a real award)Must be genuinely verifiable; fabricating endorsements is forbidden

Discipline: an apex without a foundation is a castle in the air — every brand claim must trace down to at least 2 functional pieces of evidence (RTB), otherwise cut it and rewrite.

1. Positioning Map: Finding the Vacant Position

Take the geek category (the USD 200~800 price band, see 01.05 Four-Category Matrix Rule) as an example:

 High automation
      │
> 💡 The example figures in this section come from the complete projection chain of the geek-category AstroNext USD 399 smart astronomical telescope; see [08.02 Geek Category AstroNext Telescope Projection].

      │   Entry-level toy scope (USD 150)
      │   【Manual · low price, low quality】
      └───────────────────────────→ Price

Positioning statement template: For [target audience], [brand] is the only product in [category] that delivers [key point of differentiation], because [RTB evidence].

2. Naming Architecture and MSRP Uplift Logic

  • Master brand — sub-brand — SKU three-level naming: the master brand carries trust, the sub-brand carries the category (cf. Anker→Soundcore, DJI→Mini/Avata), and the SKU suffix reserves a derivative series (AstroNext Go / Pro / Max, aligned with the derivative SKU strategy of the 01.11 GR5 End-of-Life Gate);
  • Quantifying the brand premium: benchmark tracking in the consumer electronics industry shows that, once brand mindshare is being built and the average review score on mainstream overseas e-commerce platforms (such as Amazon) stays stably at ≥4.4, the premium headroom for next-generation products with the same specification typically increases by 5%~10% — this is the core reference path for mature brand operators when evaluating medium-to-long-term brand investment returns (Brand Equity ROI).

2. CES / IFA Trade Show Marketing SOP (T-6M Timeline)

Once the Brand House is set, the CES/IFA trade show is the brand claim's first physical, offline validation.
(T-6M timeline)

StageKey tasksPass criteria
T-6MBooth booking (CES Las Vegas, month 1 / IFA Berlin, month 9); budget and goal settingMain hall total budget approx. USD 10K to USD 50K+ (2026 official floor rental approx. USD 46.50 to USD 51.50 per square foot; a 10×10 booth starts at approx. USD 4,650 to USD 5,150; the total budget including build-out / materials / travel commonly reaches USD 15K to USD 50K+) / Eureka Park startup area approx. USD 1K to USD 5K (subject to that year's official price list); pick two of three goals: media coverage volume / channel lead count / captured email count
T-4MCES Innovation Awards submission (deadline usually in autumn); first screen of the media listAn award is the door-opener for media invitations; a list of 50 outlets: Tier1 tech media (The Verge/WIRED/CNET/Engadget) + vertical media + regional media
T-3MBooth design and demo flow; booth pitch cardsThe on-site Demo reuses the pre-sales five-step Demo method of the 01.09 GR3 Market-Readiness Gate; 3 demo units (1 on display, 2 spare), no crashes in a 72-hour soak test before the show
T-2MMedia interview invitations + Embargo agreements; KOL on-site appointment schedulingThe Embargo mechanism reuses the GR3 launch discipline; the appointment ledger reuses the field structure of the 04.03 Influencer and Tech Media Sample Board; lock in ≥8 Tier1 on-site interview slots
T-1MPress Kit; registration for the pre-show closed-door media days (ShowStoppers/Pepcom); MAP approval for the show special price sheetHigh-resolution image library / spec sheet / CEO pull quote all in place; let 200+ journalists get hands-on with the real device on site and distribute 50+ Media Kits; price actions go through the exemption process of 05.04 Global Channel Governance and MAP Price Control

🚦 Traffic light (time-sensitive): CES/IFA booth quotes adjust year by year. The 2026 official CES floor rental is approx. USD 46.50 to USD 51.50 per square foot (CTA member / non-member), the smallest 10×10 booth floor rental is approx. USD 4,650 to USD 5,150; the Eureka Park startup area offers turnkey packages as low as approx. USD 1K as well as 6×6 spaces around USD 5.5K. The ranges above serve only as budget anchors and are subject to the current year's official exhibitor quotes, so always re-quote at project definition.

1. Three On-Site Booth Traffic Tactics

  1. Scheduled public Demo: one session every 30 minutes; the crowd-gathering effect is itself booth advertising;
  2. Scan-to-capture with prize draws: captured emails go straight into the prospect pool — this feeds real ammunition into factor 2 (Q_crowdfunding) of the 01.08 GR2 Tooling Lock Gatelocked-quantity model, with a per-show target of ≥2,000 captured emails;
  3. Show-only Bundle + B2B negotiation area: accessory bundle pricing exclusive to on-site orders creates scarcity; a dedicated B2B buyer negotiation area collects Retail KA and distributor business cards on site — acceptance red line: ≥50 valid Business Leads per day.

2. Media Interview Execution Standards

  • Open with a 45-second elevator pitch (brand claim → core difference → on-site, filmable visuals), organized entirely around "features that can be filmed and demonstrated";
  • Daily report: same-day coverage links, interview schedule, and lead count synced to everyone in a three-line format.

3. T+2W Close-Out

  • [ ] Tier A channel leads get a first response within 48 hours (aligned with 05.03 Offline Distribution and Overseas Retail KA Store Entry), with a personalized Thank-you Letter + commercial quotation + sample shipment

  • [ ] Show intentions convert into actually signed NDA and trial-sale PO

  • [ ] Coverage quantified: ≥20 total articles and ≥5 Tier1 outlets is the pass line

  • [ ] Captured emails are tagged into the pool and handed over to the crowdfunding / preorder funnel (05.01 Online Overseas Channel Operations)

3. Overseas Top-Tier Tech Media PR and Embargo Exclusive First Publication Operational SOP (Tech PR & Media Blast)

Field rule: the PR ignition of overseas hardware is not a mass-mailed Press Release but a precisely scheduled military operation. A single positive in-depth long-form review from The Verge or Wired moves crowdfunding conversion rates and overseas Retail KA buyer trust more than a million USD of generic paid media.

1. Three-Layer Pyramid of Global Tech Media and the PR Array

                ┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
                │ Tier 1: Global top tech media and business press │
                │ (The Verge / Wired / TechCrunch / WSJ / CNET)       │
                ├─────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
                │ Tier 2: Specialist hardware and review media │
                │ (Tom's Guide / Ars Technica / PCMag / Gizmodo)      │
                ├─────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
                │ Tier 3: Vertical geek media and regional portals │
                │ (Sky & Telescope / GearJunkie / Heise / Giga)       │
                └─────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
  • Tier 1 (sets the trust and volume ceiling): direct executive relationships, customized exclusive first-publication rights, locking 1~2 flagship outlets;
  • Tier 2 (parameter projections and buying guides): provide a standardized Reviewer's Guide, competing for Best Picks lists and buying guides;
  • Tier 3 (long-tail SEO and vertical circle penetration): provide high-resolution test material packages, forming deep endorsements in each niche vertical circle.

2. Press Kit Core Digital Asset Package (Cloud Shared Whitepaper)

The cloud Press Kit opened to tech journalists worldwide must contain the following 5 standardized core assets:

Asset moduleFile content and format specificationField use and pitfall warnings
Press ReleasePDF + Google Docs (inverted pyramid structure, including founder-quotable soundbites, MSRP suggested retail price, on-sale date)Empty PR boilerplate is strictly forbidden; the first paragraph must answer "what is it, what pain point does it solve, how much does it cost, where do I buy it"
Reviewer's Guide10~15 page in-depth review guide (PDF, with images and text)Clearly mark the recommended test scenarios, comparative competitor test data, known minor Beta software quirks, and the follow-up OTA patch plan
4K Visual Assets300DPI print-grade high-resolution white-background product shots + real lifestyle / outdoor scene shots + internal exploded-structure renderings (PNG transparent background / JPG)Journalists need no re-cutting for article images; watermark-free high-resolution photography is provided for direct use as the hero image
B-Roll Video Package4K 60fps ProRes/Log uncompressed video masters (direct cloud links to large files)Includes a 360° rotation of the exterior, close-ups of one-touch operation gestures, and live footage of functions in action, with clean ambient sound and no background music, ready for video creators to cut directly
Fact Sheet1-page hard-spec comparison table (Dimensions, Weight, Battery Wh, Wireless Protocols, Certifications)Prevents the risk of journalists copying wrong key technical parameters from third-party channels and triggering negative clarifications
  • NDA (mutual confidentiality agreement): signed before sending any unreleased industrial design drawings, spec sheets, or engineering units, to prevent core technology leakage and competitors racing to patent it;

  • Embargo agreement (news publication hold): must be locked in writing (two-way email confirmation or DocuSign):

    • “By receiving the review unit and confidential materials, the recipient agrees not to publish, broadcast, or share any reviews, opinions, or data before the Embargo Lift Date: [specific year, month and day, with a timestamp precise to the minute and the corresponding time zone]”;
    • "Ship first, ask for the embargo later" is strictly forbidden; the Embargo signature and confirmation must be completed before the sample units are shipped.

4. Golden Firmware (Golden FW) for Review Engineering Units and Soak-Test Discipline

  • Firmware freeze 30 days in advance (Feature Freeze): the firmware of units shipped to media must be tagged as Golden FW; shipping Daily Build test packages that have not passed strict regression testing to media is strictly forbidden;
  • Dual-partition anti-bricking (A/B Partition): media units must have a dual system partition safe rollback mechanism, preventing the device from being bricked by an OTA interrupted by weak network or power loss during journalists' testing, which would cause an unrecoverable, devastating negative review;
  • 72-hour extreme soak test before shipping: every unit sent for testing must be manually inspected by a QA engineer, who issues an independent factory test report (the checklist covers key feel, lens optical distortion, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi throughput, and temperature rise).

5. Global Embargo Lift Schedule (Media Blast) with Four-Time-Zone Coordination

The first-day reviews of global media must go out in a same-second tsunami, eliminating information leaks caused by regional time differences:

Key milestonePacific Time (PST)Eastern Time (EST)Central European Time (CET)Beijing Time (CST)Core coordination action

5. Interfaces with the Existing System

Interface pointWhat it connects
01.05 Four-Category Matrix RuleThe brand content team continuously feeds ammunition into the YouTube/Reddit strongholds of the geek category
01.07 GR1 Commercial Project Definition GateThe three user-profile dimensions are the derivation input for the emotional value layer
01.09 GR3 Market-Readiness GateThe parent system for the five-step Demo method, Embargo discipline, and the KOL funnel mechanism
05.05 Global Mega-Promo Full-Cycle Operational SOPBrand-term search volume converts at a significantly higher rate than non-brand terms (industry experience range 3~5×); trade show momentum is the vanguard that feeds the mega-promo
04.03 Influencer and Tech Media Sample BoardThe field template for the trade show media/KOL appointment ledger

6. Overseas CMO Field Countermeasure: T-60 Day Pre-Show Confidential Press Preview (Embargo) with Top Media and B2B Buyer Lock-In Loop

Spending hundreds of thousands on Las Vegas to hire people to hand out flyers and put on flashy booth shows brings in crowds that are 80% passers-by grabbing freebies and competitors probing for intelligence; the post-show lead conversion rate is under 2%. This is the most expensive "vanity self-congratulation" for an overseas hardware brand. The core value of an international trade show is "the PR ignition lever" and "B2B business locking".

1. Locking Top-Tier Tech Media 60 Days Before the Show (Embargo Briefing Closed-Door Preview)

  • Closed-door door-knocking mechanism for top media: 60 days before the show, use engineering units to open the doors of Tier-1 tech media such as The Verge, Wired, CNET, and TechCrunch; no public press release, only one-on-one closed-door previews with a signed confidentiality agreement (NDA);
  • In-depth hotel suite experience and publication domination (Media Blast): invite journalists into a quiet, private hotel suite, where the product director demonstrates face to face for 30 minutes. Sign a strict Embargo (publication hold agreement), locking the publication time precisely to the globally unified embargo lift time specified in §3.5: T-Day 06:00 PST (corresponding to EST 09:00 / CET 15:00 / CST 22:00). In the first second of the tech journalists' morning publishing wave, reviews and video reviews across all major tech media ignite together, creating domination-level reach across the whole web.

2. "VIP Only" B2B Buyer Lock-In at the Booth Core and Tiered ROI Assessment

  • Negotiation tables instead of a department store: the booth core position is strictly forbidden for walk-in traffic and is set directly as a closed "VIP Only" business meeting room;

  • Lock Retail KA buyers in advance: before the show, use LinkedIn and overseas trading companies to lock the schedules of category buyers at channels such as Best Buy, Target, and MediaMarkt. On site, focus on gross margin (Margin), supply lead time, and exclusivity agreements;

  • Tiered ROI criteria for exhibitions (avoiding one-size-fits-all absolutism):

    • Channel-expansion type exhibition (mature stage / main hall): the hard metrics are signed channel count and intent purchase orders (Intent PO); any exhibition that fails to bring back core KA intent business is judged as not meeting the channel conversion bar;
    • Brand-hype and crowdfunding reservoir type exhibition (innovation startup stage / Eureka Park): aligned with the §2 target framework, the key metrics are the number of Tier-1 tech media interviews (≥5 articles) and the number of high-intent prospects captured on site (≥1,000 emails), storing core momentum for the crowdfunding ignition.

Ownership of this topic (de-duplication): the canonical owner of PR / Embargo / media tiering is 04.04 Overseas Tech Media PR Exclusive First Publication; this document retains only the brand positioning and trade show marketing interfaces, and in case of conflict between the two documents, 04.04 prevails.
